Title:

"Mayor Tom Bradley addresses the Los Angeles City Council about budget cuts"

Date:
September 7, 1973

Synopsis

At a Los Angeles City Council meeting, Mayor Tom Bradley speaks regarding a proposal to cut the current budget. Bradley outlines the steps he went through, including asking all department heads to carefully evaluate their budgets, to arrive at the proposal to cut the budget by $12.5 million. The proposal includes cuts to every department, although there is some discussion that indicates concerns that too much money may be cut from the police department's budget. Councilman Louis R. Nowell addresses the council saying he hasn't had time to read the proposal and is not ready to vote on the issues. He doubts any citizens have had time to read it either, and they should give it a few days before voting. Includes silent footage of city council members, shots of people attending the meeting, and shots of Chief of Police Edward M. Davis.
