"Los Angeles County Sheriff's Academy and Los Angeles Police Academy graduations"

July 13, 1973

Both the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Academy and the Los Angeles Police Academy held graduation ceremonies in which a total of 242 individuals became "full-fledged law enforcement rookies." Dick Garten reports from the Police Academy where Police Chief Ed Davis, Mayor Tom Bradley and Congressman Alphonzo Bell give a joint statement regarding funding for a new Command Control communications system. Note that Bradley appears, but the footage cuts off as he is about to speak. At the Sheriff's Academy graduation an unidentified man walks among the graduates asking them questions about their background and the Academy training. Includes shots of uniform patches identifying different departments, families in attendance and a diagram of the Los Angeles Emergency Communications System.
