Synopsis

Reporter Tony Valdez covers the celebration of Los Angeles’ bicentennial year at Plaza State Park. The event serves to kick off a year-long celebration of the milestone. Mayor Tom Bradley welcomes the crowd, and speaks about Los Angeles place in the international community, and its standing as a place filled with rich and diverse cultures in areas ranging from theater and art, to commerce, industry and intellectual achievement. Vice President Walter Mondale speaks to the crowd and poses for pictures with a letter he signed. A group of diverse religious leaders stand at the podium while Cardinal Timothy Manning speaks to the crowd. Clip includes reporter’s voiceover (no picture), shots of a marching band and drill team, shots of mariachis, people handing out bumper stickers with the slogan "L.A.'s the place," and footage of the crowds at the park.
