The Defense Rests (1934)

Directed by Lambert Hillye

Jack Holt’s sleazy defense attorney will stop at nothing when it comes to clearing his villainous defendants’ names. Disgusted by his morals and tactics, his assistant (Arthur) campaigns to change his ways, but as she falls in love with him only a series of compromises keeps her from the brink of legal and ethical peril. This complex morality tale calls on Arthur’s gift for moving character construction.
