Though The Gospel of Matthew (1964) was ultimately filmed in Italy, director Pier Paolo Pasolini scouted locations in the Holy Land, footage of which he assembled into a travelogue to fundraise for the feature. In voiceover, the director reflects upon his fascination and disappointment with the area.
