"An uproariously funny romantic comedy, with a brilliant screen play..." - The New York Times
Directed by Mitchell Leisen
Hands Across the Table set the template for a number of Leisen romantic comedies to come: An independent woman falls, despite all her best intentions, for a guy with no discernable skills or abilities beyond his easy charm. Here, Lombard’s manicurist mistakes MacMurray’s wisecracking batchelor for a man of means. Intended as a B-picture, Leisen built the material up and, in the process, made MacMurray a star.
