La Princesse Mandane (1928)
One of the more commercially-oriented films of Dulac’s career, this adventure tale, an adaptation of Pierre Benoît’s novel, is expressed at times through the language of classical ballet and spatial representations of female captivity, but also through cinematic intertextuality, satire, and cross-dressing, opening her work up to a multiplicity of queer readings.
