The Salesman  (Iran/France, 2016)

Forushande

While rehearsing a theater production in Tehran, Emad (Shahab Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti) are forced to relocate to a new apartment, a domestic dislocation that prefigures an act of violence that sends their lives careening in unimagined directions.  Winner of Best Actor and Best Screenplay awards at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, The Salesman is a taut, masterful study of character, gender and social politics in modern Iran.  UCLA Film & Television Archive is honored to welcome acclaimed director Asghar Farhadi (A Separation) to the Billy Wilder Theater for this special preview screening.

DCP, color, in Persian with English subtitles, 125 min.  DIR/SCR: Asghar Farhadi.  CAST: Taraneh Alidoosti, Shahab Hosseini, Babak Karimi.

The Salesman opens on December 9 at Laemmle Theaters in Los Angeles.
