20,000 Leagues Under the Sea  (1954)

Director Richard Fleischer's superb, Technicolor fantasy presents Kirk Douglas as an American sailor in the 19th century, swept into a strange adventure when his ship is capsized by a submarine, invented and piloted by Captain Nemo (James Mason), a maniacal genius with a dystopian and vengeful worldview.  Summoning courage and ingenuity, Douglas meets with spectacular dangers in his quest to neutralize danger and return home.

The Vikings  (1958)

This epic drama pits Viking Einar (Kirk Douglas) against his slave half-brother (Tony Curtis) in a sinuous tale of filial and political power struggles, as Vikings vie for control of the kingdom of Northumbria, and the siblings compete for the Christian princess Morgana (Janet Leigh).  Magnificently photographed in Norway and throughout Europe by cinematographer Jack Cardiff, the film was a major international success for Douglas' Bryna Productions.
