Despondent at the death of his wife, a businessman hires a contract killer to take his life, but then—in an ironic twist which was the hallmark of the haunting Whistler radio series—learns that his wife is alive, and is desperate to undo the deal.  A moody thriller with Richard Dix as the victim trapped in a fate of his own making.

The third entry in the Whistler series finds Janis Carter on a suspenseful investigation with amnesiac Richard Dix to discover his identity, with only the cryptic contents of his pockets for clues.  An ominous fortune and the peculiar habit of kittens and birds turning up dead in Dix’s presence suggest that the well-meaning Carter may not like what she finds.
