Director Andrew Okpeaha MacLean’s first feature offers an elemental morality tale set amongst modern Iñupiaq residents of stark Northern Alaska.  Lifelong friends Qalli and Aivaaq meet with tragedy, and together construct a lie that affects their families, community and themselves.  The superbly constructed morality tale points up tensions within an ancient but evolving culture.

Director Zacharias Kunuk’s whimsical and captivating film depicts an Inuit camp in the 1930s, as families gathers in a communal igloo to celebrate the coming of spring.  Songs, dances and contests of skill are interrupted by interfamilial drama, when a man asks for the hand of an elder’s young daughter.
