By turns whimsical and philosophical, I Hate the Dawn covers a lot of territory over the course of a single day as an independent film crew tries to complete a single shot before bad weather closes in. The deceptively simple set up begins with a rangy conversation between the director and his assistant as they drive to the set in a sun-dappled park. Stories within stories emerge and secrets are revealed as the ebb and flow of the creative process comes to mirror the energizing unpredictability of life itself.
