UCLA Film & Television Archive and the Hammer Museum presents

Popeye (1980)

Popeye (1980)
November 13, 2011 - 11:00 am

Directed by Robert Altman

In Robert Altman’s rollicking 1980 musical, brawny, spinach-eating sailor Popeye seeks his “Pappy” in the seaside village of Sweethaven. As in all “Popeye” stories, he romances Olive Oyl while duking it out with the hulking Bluto. Familiar friends Wimpy and Swee’pea also make appearances.  The characters populate a fanciful world, fully realizing the trippy vision of celebrated cartoonist, playwright and screenwriter Jules Feiffer.
