Score (U.S./Yugoslavia, 1972)

Newly restored uncensored version!

Directed by Radley Metzger

Director Radley Metzger has said that the Score shoot required “every light in Yugoslavia” to achieve the polished production values for which he was known but lost out at the box office to the 1970s sudden explosion of big screen hardcore, gritty films shot in a basement. Nevertheless, Score has emerged as a swinging masterpiece, a daring genre-bender that finds two couples mingling in every possible combination in a sun-drenched villa on the south of France.

Producer: Radley Metzger. Screenwriter: Jerry Douglas. Cinematographer: Frano Vodopivec. Editor: Doris Toumarkine. Cast: Claire Wilbur, Calvin Culver, Lynn Lowry, Gerald Grant, Carl Parker.

Blu-ray, color, 90 min.

After encountering a mysterious blonde at a literary party, Jean (Carl Parker) finds himself drawn into a world of sadomasochism and domination. The silent siren who leads him there is Anne (Rebecca Brooke), the beautiful sex slave of a middle-aged procuress, Claire (Marilyn Roberts). From the famed rose gardens of Paris’ Bagatelle gardens to Claire’s own “gothic dungeon," director Radley Metzger punctuates his usual high style with hardcore imagery in adapting Jean de Berg’s (a.k.a. Catherine Robbe-Grillet’s) infamous S&M novel to the screen.

Producer: Marty Richards, Gill Champion. Based on the novel by Jean de Berg. Screenwriter: Jake Barnes. Cast: Rebecca Brooke, Carl Parker, Marilyn Roberts.

Blu-ray, color, 89 min.
