Title:

"Women's rights protest in front of CBS Studios"

Date:
November 19, 1974

Synopsis

Women protest in front of CBS Studios, carrying signs and chanting slogans. Stan Chambers interviews one of the women, a member of the Media Group of the Los Angeles Women's Liberation Union, about the purpose of the demonstration. She explains the Women's Coalition for Better Broadcasting has filed a petition with the FCC to deny the license renewal applications for KNXT, KTLA, KTTV and KCOP. They are protesting against the portrayal of women on television, as well as the fact that the studios hire very few women, and those they do hire are primarly hired for clerical positions. Footage includes interview, protesters and their signs, and exterior shots of CBS.

Note:  The KTLA newsfilm collection at UCLA consists of cut and unedited stories, outtakes and fill footage, originally shot on 16mm reversal film stock with magnetic soundtrack. Some footage, particularly material not used for broadcast, may be without sound.
