Title:

"UCLA dental students participate in the Indian Dental Clinic Project"

Date:
June 6, 1972

Synopsis

For the second year in a row, UCLA dental students will participate in the Indian Dental Clinic Project. Dental equipment is being loaded into a moving truck at the UCLA Medical Center to be shipped to Whiteriver, Arizona, the home of the Fort Apache Reservation. A group of 100 dental students will set up a clinic to help address the dental needs of the White Mountain Apache Indians. Last year, they focused on making dentures for older adults, but this time they intend to focus on treating the kids, and offering oral hygiene programs to educate them. Stan Chambers interviews Don Rowland and Mark Lisagor, the co-chairmen of the project, about how the project got started, who is involved, and the services they plan to offer. Footage includes shots of the moving truck and different pieces of large dental equipment, such as exam chairs, being loaded on the truck.

Note:  The KTLA newsfilm collection at UCLA consists of cut and unedited stories, outtakes and fill footage, originally shot on 16mm reversal film stock with magnetic soundtrack. Some footage, particularly material not used for broadcast, may be without sound.
