Title:

"Proposed legislation for renovating abandoned houses in Central City"

Date:
August 29, 1975

Synopsis

Reporter Stan Chambers interviews Senator Alan Cranston about the legislation he is proposing to establish three neighborhood corporations working under HUD to start taking over abandoned houses in Central City. These houses will be renovated to bring them back to a state where they can be lived in again, then help families buy them or rent them for low cost. Areas of abandoned houses are a serious problem in cities due to fire danger, criminal activity and related problems. Senator Cranston is confident they will get a bill to pass because it is a widespread problem in the country at this time. Footage includes interview and shots of abandoned houses with boarded up windows and graffiti on the walls.
