"Interview about Black colleges and education with Arthur Fletcher of the United Negro College Fund"

Stan Chambers interviews Arthur Fletcher, executive director of the United Negro College Fund, about funding issues, the status of Black colleges, and their future. Fletcher discusses recent successful fundraising efforts to maintain the institutions, explaining if they can raise money and demonstrate a sizable constituency, the government will come forth with funds to help meet long-term needs. Fletcher also responds to questions about the future of Black colleges and talks about how this is the first time in history where Black college graduates are moving into the labor market at a level commensurate with their preparation. He also cites the attrition rate for Black students as being too high, and that efforts must ensure that Black students graduate in order to break cycles of poverty.
