Title:

"California Veterans Movement draft demonstration at Armed Forces Building"

Date:
October 26, 1971

Synopsis

Demonstrators from the California Veterans Movement picketed in front of the Armed Forces Building in Los Angeles to protest the first call up of draftees since the new draft law was signed. At a later stage of the protest, demonstrators began blocking traffic causing the police to declare it an unlawful assembly and order them to disperse. Stan Chambers interviews one of the protesters about the reasons for the demonstration and what they hope to achieve. Footage includes shots of protesters carrying signs in front of the building, demonstrators walking in the streets, police preparing for action, and protesters walking away after the police give the order to disperse. There are also wide shots of the building, officers watching the protest from patrol cars, and demonstrators pouring red paint on the sidewalk and dipping their signs in the paint.
