The Archive is renowned for its pioneering efforts to rescue, preserve and showcase moving image media. It is dedicated to ensuring that film history is explored and enjoyed for generations to come.

Hidden behind a false wall in the Ackerman Union for more than 20 years, a group of UCLA students now seeks to restore the 40-year-old student-made mural entitled, “The Black Experience.”

Created in the aftermath of the UCLA student riots following the Kent State shootings of 1970, the mural was an attempt to positively express the campus’ efforts for social justice and depicts key figures and events in African American history.

The Afrikan Student Union hopes to work with Associated Students UCLA to find ways to uncover and preserve this work that deserves to be seen.
