Devised by writer-actress Gertrude Berg (who won the first Emmy for lead actress in a comedy series) as a radio show in 1929, "The Goldbergs" became a hugely successful television series (originally telecast live) airing from 1949 to 1956. The heartwarming show depicts a lively Jewish family living in New York City: the dutiful children, Rosie and Sammy; Jake, the hot-tempered husband; old-world Uncle David; and, of course, the ever cheerful and gracious Molly (Gertrude Berg).
Joined by their extended family and neighbors, the Goldberg house consistently overflows with joy, laughter, and love.
