JAMES FRIEDMAN APPOINTED
HEAD OF COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Los Angeles - James
Friedman was recently appointed Head of Commercial Development for the
UCLA Film and Television Archive, the largest university-based collection
of film and television materials in the world.
For the last 7 years, Friedman has served as Manager of
the UCLA Film and Television Archive's Research and Study Center (ARSC).
Tim Kittleson, the Archive's director noted, "Jim's
years of experience at ARSC, his academic achievements and his business
experience prior to coming to UCLA contribute the skills and knowledge
necessary to develop commercial projects that will generate much-needed
revenue for our programs and services."
Friedman added, "The Archive's main commercial activity
is licensing footage from the Hearst Metrotone Newsreel Collection, over
5,000 hours of moving images documenting the 20th century. I look forward
to expanding use of the newsreel collection, as well as developing production
partnerships, licensing other programs for which we have copyright, and
expanding our in-house telecine operations."
Friedman is a doctoral candidate in television studies and
film theory at UCLA, where he received his M.A. in 1994. He has worked
at UCLA since 1993 and has over 10 years prior experience in service business
