A researcher from the Fundación Carmen Toscano, specializing in the preservation of the Mexican film heritage, has assembled a well-documented dossier on a forgotten pioneer of Mexican documentary. A brief overview of the international efforts in the archival field introduces the analysis of the surviving material on Montoya and the research leading to its rediscovery. Frame enlargements from the surviving footage (about 20 minutes of screening time from 45,000 feet of nitrate film) are reproduced in the booklet, a passionate tribute to the filmmaker who witnessed some of crucial events in Mexican wars and politics during the Teens and early Twenties. González is the author of a documentary on the same subject, produced in 1988. (P.Ch.Us.)
